CONSULAR REGISTRATION

The Algerian nationals who reside in Australia, New Zealand and in the South Pacific Countries could obtain their registration at the Algerian Embassy in Canberra.

Initial Registration

The documents required for applying for an initial registration:

  • Initial registration application form, duly filled in and signed by the applicant;
  • Copy of an Algerian identity with a photo (passport “pages 1, 2, 3 and 4” or National Identity Card or Military Card);
  • Original of the applicant’s birth certificate N°12, less than one (1) year old;
  • Original of the father’s birth certificate N°12, less than one (1) year old, or death certificate;
  • If the applicant is born outside Algeria, he/she must provide:
    • Original of the grand-father’s birth certificate N°12, less than 01 year old, or death certificate;
    • Or, certificate of Algerian nationality.
  • Copy of a valid residency visa, delivered by the Immigration Department;
  • Proof of address (any copy of the last utility bill);
  • Five (5) similar recent passport-sized photographs (3,5 x 4,5 cm);
  • Proof of employment (a letter from the employer or copy of Certificate of Business of Registration or copy of Enrolment Certificate for students);
  • Original of the marriage certificate (for married applicant);
  • Original of Algerian police record (Casier Judiciaire), less than three (3) months;
  • Prepaid Registered Post envelope for the return of the documents.

Important

  • Incomplete application will be returned to the sender, if it is made by post, and will not be accepted if lodged in person at the Embassy;
  • The consular registration card (carte d’immatriculation consulaire) is valid for five (5) years from the date of issue and is free of charge.

 

Renewal of Registration

The renewal of registration is required, after the expiry of the consular registration card (carte d’immatriculation consulaire).

The documents required for this purpose are:
  • Renewal of the consular registration card application form, duly filled in and signed by the applicant;
  • Previous consular registration card ;
  • The lost document declaration form, if the previous consular registration card is lost or stolen;
  • Two (2) similar recent passport-sized photographs (3,5 x 4,5 cm);
  • Copy of a valid residency visa, delivered by the Immigration Department;
  • Proof of address (any copy of the last utility bill);
  • Proof of employment (a letter from the employer or copy of Certificate of Business of Registration or copy of Enrolment Certificate for students);
  • Proof of marital status, if there is a change in the applicant's situation;
  • Prepaid Registered Post envelope for the return of the documents.

 

Transfert of Registration File

Algerian nationals already registered at an Algerian Embassy or Consulate abroad and currently residing permanently in one of the South Pacific Countries should ask for the transfer of their registration file.

This procedure is carried out by the Embassy and new registration at the Algerian Embassy in Canberra is granted as soon as the file is transferred.

The documents required for this purpose are:

  • File transfer application form, duly filled in and signed by the applicant;
  • Initial registration application form, duly filled in and signed by the applicant;
  • Original of the current consular registration card;
  • The lost document declaration form, if the current consular registration card is lost or stolen;
  • Three (3) similar recent passport-sized photographs (3,5 x 4,5 cm);
  • Copy of a valid residency visa, delivered by the Immigration Department;
  • Proof of address (any copy of the last utility bill);
  • Proof of employment (a letter from the employer or copy of Certificate of Business of Registration or copy of Enrolment Certificate for students);
  • Proof of marital status, if there is a change in the applicant's situation;
  • Prepaid Registered Post envelope for the return of the documents.

 

Notification of changes

Fellow Citizens registered at the Embassy are required to notify the Consular service of the following changes:

  • Change of address;
  • Change of marital status;
  • Birth/Death of children or adults;
  • Change of residency status
